I declare war on “anti-aging”!!!
The definition of “anti” means we are opposed to or against something. So, if we are against aging, doesn’t that just imply that we would rather die than age?
So many of us are terrified of getting old. Not for fear of age related diseases such as arthritis, heart disease, and cancer (all of which is really scary). No, as women, we fear looking old! How can we not be scared of it?? The “anti-aging” movement is shoved down our throats everywhere we turn! How unfair is it that men are considered distinguished as they age, yet women are encouraged to go to great lengths (and spend a shit load of money) to stop looking old?
I have known quite a few older women who were stunning! And the better I got to know them the more beautiful they became. We have probably all known women like this.
They are beautiful because they chose to live in a way that would foster that beauty, both physically and emotionally.
They are beautiful because they are wise, they are experienced, they made mistakes, they laughed and cried and smiled and they have the lines to show for it.
They are beautiful because they have taken risks. They have risen, they have fallen, and then they rose again.
They are beautiful because they lived a life filled with solutions, not excuses. They are victors not victims.
They are beautiful because they have loved deeply…. their partners, their families, and most importantly, themselves.
I think it’s incredibly sad that youth is revered and getting older has been vilified. If we don’t age, we don’t grow, and if we aren’t growing, we might as well be dead.
Call me crazy, but I think I prefer “pro-aging.”
Here’s to becoming more beautiful as we get older!
